Plant Babies

Spring & summer hit & I go a little house-plant crazy. Never mind I have absolutely no gardening skills & I've never kept a plant alive for more than a few months. I just keep trying and each time they survive a little longer. Plus this time I'm only buying succulents, cacti & hearty flowers so I'm hoping I'll have an easier time keeping them alive as they require so little attention. Fingers crossed!

I've also bought a couple of African Violets to sit on the shelves by my bed. I've always had good luck with Violets & they're so beautiful & come in such a wide variety of shades of pinks, purples & blues.


I've also been on the lookout for a big 'snake plant' to put in a corner of our bedroom but so far no luck.

p.s. sorry for my recent month long absence. I've been dealing with some personal stuff & have just had absolutely no desire to buy cosmetics or take pictures or honestly do much else besides eat mango popsicles, lay on the couch & work on jigsaw puzzles. Here's to hoping I'll get back into the swing of things soon.

Lately...

I've been swamped with helping Ryan move into my apartment and visiting family. I'll be headed back to Denton on Sunday, but until then, here are some misc things that make me happy.

Coco

It's that time again. It's time for a post about little dummy Coco.



Coco's been shedding like crazy. We bought a Furminator to help the shedding go a little faster and less intense. It's a miracle worker! It catches all of the loose fur along with most of her undercoat and Coco loves the attention (thank goodness). She isn't quite as fluffy and soft anymore since she's shed most of her winter coat, but I'm glad that she'll be cool for the intense Texas summer we're going to have. Plus, she's almost done-- we seriously filled a garbage bag with her fur.

Ugh, shedding. I love shibas so much, but the amount of fur they shed (twice a year) is bonkers.

Estate Sale + Daisies

I love estate sales. Sometimes I feel a little guilty going to them, especially since I know most of the time they're happening because of a death or because an older person is downsizing and moving out of their own home, and into the home of a loved one/ assisted living.

But I try to think of it as rescuing well loved items from being thrown away or in this specific case, being turned into a pair of pants.

The house was beautiful and incredibly well-maintained. So often you see houses in a state of disrepair, squeaky floorboards, ceilings cracked from shifting foundations, and a thick layer of dust over everything. Each doorknob was clean crystal and the walls were a bright white with shiny wooden floors. It was very much a "shabby chic" home -- I felt like I was walking into Rachel Ashwell's house. All of the items that were for sale were clean and in excellent condition. I saw this sweet piece of brass and knew it had to be mine. I've been needing things to hang on my walls, and this fits my style perfectly. Bows and all.



After exploring the house, I went outside onto the screened in porch to look at the linens and found these. Some are hand towels, others are mismatched curtains, and the bottom bit of fabric is a huge beautiful cream and silver woven table-cloth. At first I thought it was a blanket...and I guess it technically still could be. When I went to pay, the girl who checked me out said she was disappointed that I was buying the table-cloth. She said she had been planning on buying it and turning it into a pair of pants...

D: I like to think I rescued it from becoming either a failed project (it would have unraveled) or some incredibly weird looking pants.



I also bought myself some daisies at the grocery store because they were on sale, and I'm so glad I did. They've been a real pick-me up these last few days.

I'm still trying to find the right frame for the beautiful watercolor I bought from wishcandy last month! Everything I find fits it weird or I'd have to cut it down, and that isn't happening. If you want to buy anything from her, I suggest you do it now! In two weeks or so, she's shutting her etsy down for a few months while she moves.

It's been pret-ty boring around here. I'm either at work or if I'm at home, I'm doing my commission work (and farting around on pinterest).

I'm expecting some exciting things to arrive at my doorstep within the next few days though, so keep yer eyes peeled.

Instagram

I'm stupid in love with my new iphone, so instagram was the first app I downloaded when I got it for Christmas. I've never had a smartphone so the novelty of the internet and other technology fitting in my pocket was a bit too much for me to handle. I went app crazy.

I've settled down a bit now but I still use instagram most of all.

Coco: Cuddle Moderator

Coco's favorite pass-time is a tie between:
1. Inching ever closer while Ryan and I eat/cook, hoping to catch falling food &
2. Scruffing at people walking by my bedroom window.

Oh, and making sure Ryan and I never cuddle. We are only allowed to cuddle if she is in the middle of aforementioned cuddling.

Snippets - Valentine Edition

I should already be out of town by the time this posts. I have a very full few weeks ahead of me as far as work is concerned. I have a few posts (mostly valentine themed) set to publish throughout the time I'm gone and I'll have my netbook with me (to respond to comments and check email and fart around on tumblr) but for the most part I'll be either super busy or asleep.

I love Valentine's Day. It's my second favorite holiday after Halloween. I love the decorations, the excuse to give and receive presents, doing something a little extra special with the person or people you love. I think a lot of it stems from my mom's love of Valentine's Day. She has a collection of vintage Valentine themed hankies and more than enough heart shaped things to call it an obsession. My collection tends to lean more towards pink appliances and kitchen accessories. Plus, I know that someday I'll inherit half of her valentine stuff so I'm not in a huge rush to rival my mother's collection.

The Valentine mixtape is a mixture of songs I've been listening to lately and songs I put on my valentine mix annually. Hope you like it!

Just popping in to say hello.

Work today was cancelled so instead of sitting around on the internet like I do on most of my off days, I'm going to attempt to do a little cleaning around the apartment (it really really really needs it) and work on my header & business cards. Also in the works are a few blog posts scheduled for February while I'm babysitting for the better part of two weeks.

Anyways, off to be productive!
